Bhubaneswar: with the depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal very more likely to turn into a cyclonic storm within the next 48 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at most locations in coastal districts.
The IMD, in a mid-day bulletin, stated the rainfall activity will begin from May 24 evening with thunderstorm and lightning together with moderate rainfall and gain depth from May 25 morning when heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall more likely to occur in some places in the districts to be impacted by cyclone, on May 27.
In view of the heavy rainfall, IMD has issued yellow and red warnings for the following districts:
May 24
(Yellow warning)
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal.
May 25
(Yellow warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda and Puri, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and Ganjam.
May 26
(Red warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.
Extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Mayurbhanj.

Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal and Khurda.
May 27
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh and Keonjhar.
