Another cyclonic circulation formed over the Bay today.
“A cyclonic circulation lies over eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast and extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level. It’s likely to move westnorthwestwards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off north Odisha and West Bengal coasts around September 18,” informed India Meteorological Department DG Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra tod
Under influence of cyclonic circulation, light to average rainfall is likely to happen in northern region of Odisha from September 18 evening.
The north Odisha districts — Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar — may receive light to moderate rainfall between September 19 and 20. Heavy rainfall is predicted at isolated places.
As compared to amount of rainfall occurred in Odisha due to Deep Depression over the Bay of Bengal this week, the quantum of rainfall under influence of cyclonic circulation is likely to be minimal, Dr. Mohapatra said.
The incessant rainfall for past 48 hours triggered flood-like situation in Odisha with enhance in water level in all of the rivers including Mahanadi. So far, 28 sluice gates of Hirakud Dam have been opened to release excess floodwater in Mahanadi River after rise in the water level at the reservoir.
