The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday that an upper air cyclonic circulation is still present over the east-central Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas, reaching up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
Under its influence, a low-pressure region is predicted to emerge over the central Bay of Bengal within the next 12 hours. By October 2, the system is expected to travel west-northwest, intensifying into a depression over the west-central and neighboring northwest Bay of Bengal.
According to projections, the weather system will continue to move west-northwestward and is expected to cross the beaches of south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh on October 3.
The IMD has advised ongoing monitoring of the system’s progress, since it may deliver heavy rain and strong winds to coastal areas during its landfall.
Fishermen have been advised to avoid entering the sea during this time.
