Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 Updates: The Delhi Assembly election will be held in a single phase today (February 5), with counting taking place on February 8, 2025. For the past decade, AAP, led by Kejriwal, has had a firm grip on Delhi’s political scene, winning landslides in the 2015 and 2020 elections. Before the AAP emerged, the Congress ruled the capital for 15 years in a row under Sheila Dikshit’s leadership. Meanwhile, the BJP has been out of power in Delhi for 27 years, its last term being in 1998.
The incumbent AAP, which presently holds more than 60 members in the 70-seat assembly, is running for re-election, citing their previous work from the previous two terms. Atish, the current chief minister of Delhi and an AAP politician, is running for the Kalkaji assembly constituency. She will be up against Congress’ Alka Lamba and the BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri. It should be mentioned that 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi will vote at 7 a.m. today (February 5) to elect their representatives to the 8th Assembly.
Voting is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. under strict security measures. To guarantee a peaceful polling process, the Election Commission has deployed 220 paramilitary force companies, 35,626 Delhi Police men, and 19,000 home guards.
