Rajveer Deol, Sunny Deol’s son, and Paloma, Poonam Dhillon’s daughter, released their debut film ‘Dono’ in theaters on October 6. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the picture, directed by Sooraj Barjatya’s son Avnish Barjatya, earned Rs 35 lakh on its first day. The love drama failed to capitalize on a buy one, get one free sale and a huge promotional effort that involved Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, and Anupam Kher, among others.
Akshay Kumar’s Mission Raniganj and the ensemble comedy Thank You for Coming, both starring Bhumi Pednekar, released alongside Dono. However, even Akshay’s most recent film failed to wow audiences, grossing barely Rs 2.80 crore on its first day. Thank You for Coming earned almost Rs 80 lakh. Karan Deol, Sunny’s eldest son, made his debut in 2019 with the film Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas. Helmed by Sunny himself, the film had minted Rs 1.3 crore on the opening day, and was eventually declared a flop. Sunny recently bounced back with the blockbuster Gadar 2.
Dono is a love story that takes place at a wedding. Dev and Meghna, played by Rajveer and Paloma, meet at a wedding and fall in love, although both of their hearts have been crushed before.
Sunny described Dono as a “modern-day love story,” and compared it to Imtiaz Ali’s Socha Na Tha. Sunny stated at the film’s trailer presentation, “You must have seen a film that I produced – Socha Na Tha.” I am quite proud of that film. This is similar to that one, if not better.”
