On Saturday, a medium-intensity earthquake struck Uttar Pradesh. At around 1.12 a.m., a magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck 139 kilometers north-northeast of Lucknow. The depth of the earthquake, according to the National Centre for Seismology, was 82 kilometers below ground.
Tremors were also felt in nearby Lakhimpur Kheri, as well as other districts in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. The epicentre of the earthquake is said to be in Nepal’s Sanoshree Taratal.
There have been no reports of casualties or collateral damage as a result of the earthquake as of yet. Following the tremors, however, panic gripped the area. More information is still pending. Several Uttar Pradesh social media users also posted about the earthquake.
Mild tremors were felt earlier in the day in the Pithoragarh area of Uttarakhand, which was hit by a 3.6 magnitude earthquake on the Richter Scale. There was no loss of life or property reported. Another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 on the Richter Scale struck Hanley village in Jammu and Kashmir.
