After the 12551 Bangalore-Guwahati AC SF Express disaster on Sunday at around 11:54 am, East Coast Railway (ECoR) was able to resume regular train operations on both tracks of the Cuttack-Nergundi Rail Section by Monday morning.
Train services were momentarily interrupted by the derailment, which happened on the Cuttack-Bhadrak Railway Section between the stations of Kendrapara Road and Nergundi.
To restore the damaged rails, ECoR’s committed railroad workers toiled diligently through the night and in difficult circumstances.
The restoration works were overseen by East Coast Railway General Manager Shri Parmeshwar Funkwal, who personally visited the site around-the-clock to ensure prompt and effective action.
On Monday, the Overhead Equipment (OHE) was completely restored by 07:40 am, and the track was cleared and prepared for train movement by 07:15 am. The “up-line” resumed operation immediately after the first train on the “down line” arrived at 9:30 am.
Key Points:
- Restoration: Railwaymen, working with sleeper rakes, poclain machines, tower cranes, and additional personnel from NDRF/ODRAF and District administration, were instrumental in restoring the track by Monday morning.
- Resumption of Services: Trains resumed normal movement at reduced speeds (approximately 10 kilometers per hour) as restoration work continued. Speed limits will be gradually increased as the situation stabilizes.
- Train Diverts and Alternate Routes: Due to the derailment, ECoR diverted 38 Down Line trains and 17 Up Line trains to alternative routes, ensuring minimal disruption to passengers.
