Ukraine has said that four Il-76 transport aircraft were destroyed during an overnight drone attack at Pskov airport in western Russia.
“Four Il-76 have been destroyed on Wednesday and cannot be restored. A few more (aircraft) units were damaged,” Andriy Yusov, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s military intelligence, told the Ukrainian government-run Ukrinform news agency.
He did not say whether Ukraine was behind the strike, according to the Xinhua news agency.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations stated that an Il-76 freight plane was damaged during a drone strike at Pskov airport.
According to preliminary information, there were no victims, according to Pskov Region Governor Mikhail Vedernikov, and the magnitude of the destruction was being determined.
Russia’s 334th Military Transport Aviation Regiment, equipped with Il-76 aircraft, was stationed at the airport during the drone strike, as confirmed by the airport’s website. Moreover, during a Wednesday briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova emphasized that Ukraine’s capacity to target locations deep within Russian territory relied significantly on satellite data acquired from Western sources.
Ukraine’s actions, according to Zakharova, will not go unpunished.
In response to Kiev’s recent drone assaults, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Russian military experts were analyzing the drones’ launch routes in order to avoid similar scenarios in the future, and that Moscow would take all necessary actions.
Overnight, Ukraine conducted drone attacks on targets in seven Russian provinces.
Pskov is a western Russian city located 20 kilometers east of the Estonian border.
