His dedication to inject new concepts into educating, make academics’ voice heard and serve the community won the 32-year-old primary school teacher from Maharashtra the coveted USD 1 million Global Teacher Prize.

“I left engineering halfway as I couldn’t handle bullying and ragging. I’ve no regrets at all. I’m lucky that I chose teaching and could bring change in students lives,” stated Disale, who beat 12,000 others from across the world for the award.

The Zilla Parishad primary school teacher from Paritewadi, a tiny village with lower than 2,000 inhabitants in Maharashtra’s Solapur district, was recognised for his efforts to advertise girls’ education and set off a quick-response (QR) coded textbook revolution in India.

He has announced that he would share 50 per cent of the prize money equally amongst his fellow finalists.

Speaking to PTI over telephone from his house in Solapur, Disale stated, “I am thankful to the Varkey Foundation and UNESCO for giving recognition to teachers in such a big way.” “Besides the prize cash, there may be huge status that’s attached to this award. I really feel proud to be the first Indian to obtain it,” he stated.

Disale doesn’t need to go away Paritewadi from the place his quick-response (QR)-coded textbook revolution unfold to the complete state, after which to the complete nation.

“I’m a teacher and I will be a teacher for my whole life now. I dedicate my award to all of the teachers worldwide. I firmly believe that the government, all stakeholders and teachers should work in tandem to deliver change within the education sector. If all of us work collectively, we will get higher outcomes,” he stated. “Teachers who’re doing good work ought to be recognised so that they get motivated to do something different.

There are various challenges within the education sector and these might be addressed if all of the stakeholders work collectively, he stated.

“Girls’ education is a major issue. Dropout is another one. There are so many challenges in this sector. Teachers have options and floor degree experience. I can say this on the idea of my private experience. I shared my thought with the government (QR code revolution) they usually carried out it and a serious change was introduced. I’m hopeful that there are lots of like me who’ve new concepts which must be heard,” the Global Teacher Prize recipient stated.

“When you apply for this award, you have to mention that how will you spend the cash. So, it was a pre-decided thing, and I’ve not taken this resolution spontaneously or in wake of an emotional outpour,” Disale stated.

Lecturers work for outcome, not for revenue, and these academics are doing super work and they need to also get the reward, he stated. “I want them to feel like winners and be equally happy,” Disale stated, including that this was his second try for the award and the method acquired delayed as a result of COVID-19 pandemic. The process included interviews, an audit and verification by PWC and other agencies.

““I was rejected in my first try when one of my overseas friends nominated me. Then she told me to apply again. It was a lengthy process and took almost a year due to the pandemic. I have gone by interviews and showed my work in detail. I think it was my overall profile, not a single aspect that got me the award,” he stated.

Asked about his decision to share the prize cash with the runners-up of the competition, he stated that it was pre-determined.

Their voice should be heard, respected and amplified,” Disale stated.

This is not the first worldwide recognition for Disale. He has earlier been recognised by Microsoft because the Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, and also gained the National Innovation Foundation’s Innovator of the Year Award in 2018.

Disale would additionally donate some of the prize cash to determine a Lecturers Innovation Fund, which will assist academics like him bring ideas for students.

Since winning the award, Disale’s name has been trending on social media and he has acquired congratulatory messages from celebrities together with Amitabh Bachchan however he’s most excited to celebrate the achievement with his students in Paritewadi.

“I’m going to meet them on Sunday and will celebrate with them. I’ve already shared the information with them and they’re too happy. Now I want to see the happiness on their face,” Disale stated.
