Govardhan Puja, also known as Annakoot, is observed the day after Diwali. This puja is performed on Kartik Shukla Pratipada, according to the Hindu calendar. The Govardhan Puja includes the preparation of annakuts, and cow dung is used to create the shape of the Govardhan. However, Govardhan Puja is considered incomplete without parikrama.
Many people stay at home during Diwali to spend the festival with their loved ones. People also celebrate festivals such as Govardhan Puja, Dhanteras, Lakshmi Puja, and Diwali Puja during this time.
Govardhan Puja 2022 Date:
This year’s Govardhan Puja will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. However, because there will be a solar eclipse on this day, Govardhan Puja will not be held on day after Diwali but instead on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.
Govardhan Puja 2022: Puja vidhi/Muhurat time
According to Hindu mythology, Govardhan Puja should be performed on Pratipada Tithi of the Kartik month. This year’s Govardhan Puja, also known as Annakut Puja, will take place on October 26 from 06:29 to 08:43. On this day, Lord Krishna defeated the god Indra.
Importance of Govardhan Puja 2022
According to legend, Lord Indra was enraged when Shri Krishna ordered the Braj people to worship the Govardhan mountain and cows. In his rage, he unleashed such torrential rain that the residents of Braj were in danger. Shri Krishna then lifted the Govardhan mountain with his little finger to protect the Braj people, Brajwasis, and animals. For seven days, they sought refuge beneath this mountain. This is why people worship it during Govardhan Puja by carving it out of cow dung and circumambulating it seven times.
Govardhan Puja 2022 Puja samagri:
Govardhan Puja samagri are sweets to be offered to the deity, incense sticks, flowers, garlands made of fresh flowers, roli, rice, and cow dung. The Chappan bhog is prepared, which consists of 56 different food items, and the panchamrit is made with honey, curd, and sugar.
