The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has struck agreements with over 50 companies to boost India’s manufacturing and innovation environment for startups.
The initiative’s goal is to stimulate collaboration between established firms and growing manufacturing startups in order to inspire innovation, produce new products, and drive long-term industrial growth.
According to an official, DPIIT has been aggressively interacting with corporations, industry groups, unicorns, and sector veterans to emphasize the need of establishing manufacturing-focused incubators and the advantages of collaborating closely with early-stage businesses.
“This is part of a larger effort to promote the startup ecosystem and encourage the industry to support innovation in manufacturing through incubators and partnerships,” the official noted.
These collaborations are expected to provide critical support for manufacturing startups, which often struggle with access to infrastructure, capital, and scaling opportunities.
Manufacturing-focused incubators contribute significantly to this effort by providing pilot facilities, design centers, prototype laboratories, and shared manufacturing spaces, all of which help businesses lower their high capital investment burden.
These incubators also act as a bridge between entrepreneurs and established sectors, providing access to market prospects, risk funding, and innovative technologies. Corporations, academic institutions, and research organisations can all establish them.
The DPIIT’s program is viewed as a crucial step toward building a strong and collaborative manufacturing startup ecosystem, which will help India achieve its larger objective of becoming a global powerhouse for innovation and industrial progress.
Last month, DPIIT inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Thermo Fisher Scientific (TFS) to drive innovation in India’s biotechnology sector and build a robust pipeline of high-growth firms. Over the next three years, the collaboration plans to support over 500 biotech businesses through strategic advising, technology access, mentorship, and investor connections.
As part of the MoU, TFS, in collaboration with Startup India and DPIIT’s Bharat Startup Grand Challenge (BSGC), will launch the BioVerse Challenge, a nationwide platform to identify and nurture India’s most promising biotech entrepreneurs, as well as the BioVerse Mentors Circle, which will provide skill development and technical training across leading bio-incubators.
