With mercury rising in numerous parts of Odisha, at least thirty places recorded day temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or above today.
Baripada town recorded the highest maximum (day) temperature at 44.6 Degrees Celsius, followed by Nuapada (44.0), Talcher (43.8), Jharsuguda, and Keonjhar each (43.6), Angul (43.3), Bolangir (43.2), Boudh, and Sundargarh each (43.0), Dhenkanal (42.9), Titilagarh (42.5), Rourkela (42.1), Bhawanipatna, and Nayagarh each (42.0), Chandbali, and Hirakud each (41.9), Bhadrak (41.8), Malkangiri, and Sambalpur each (41.7), Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack each (41.6), Jajpur, and Paralakhemundi each (41.0), Bargarh, Kendrapara, Phulbani, Sonepur each (40.8), Balasore, and Khordha each (40.5) and Jagatsinghpur (40.0).

There will be no significant change in the maximum (day) temperature during the next 24 hours, with a steady fall of 2°C to 3°C over the next three days, followed by a rise of 2°C to 3°C in several parts across Odisha.
People should take precautions when going outside throughout the day between 1100 IST and 1500 IST, according to a special alert issued by the IMD regional centre in Bhubaneswar.
