The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a new alert on Friday, forecasting widespread rainfall activity in Odisha, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in several districts over the next two days due to the formation of a low-pressure system over Gangetic West Bengal and its surrounding areas.
According to a lunchtime bulletin released by the IMD’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Friday, a cyclonic circulation remains over northern Gangetic West Bengal, reaching up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and dipping southwestward with height. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is predicted to form within the next 24 hours. A trough connects the northeast Arabian Sea to this system, running across Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand.
The southwest monsoon has been active across Odisha, with light to moderate rainfall recorded at most places and heavy showers reported in Kendrapada, Bhadrak, and Kalahandi districts.
