According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a well-defined low-pressure region over the north Bay of Bengal drifted steadily west-northwestward and condensed into a depression.
As of 0530 hrs IST on July 25, 2025, the depression was centered over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of coastal West Bengal and Bangladesh, about 130 km south of Mongla (Bangladesh), 150 km east-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal), and 170 km southeast of Kolkata.
According to IMD predictions, this system would move west-northwestward and cross the West Bengal and bordering Bangladesh shores during the forenoon of July 25, 2025.
Following that, it is expected to continue moving west-northwest across Gangetic West Bengal and neighboring North Odisha and Jharkhand during the next 24 hours, bringing heavy rain to these areas.
