Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India (HMSI) has introduced the new SP 160 in India, with an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.17 lakh. The bike is offered in two variants: single disc and twin disc, with the latter priced at Rs 1.22 lakh (ex-showroom) and deliveries set to begin later this month.
Honda SP 160: A bigger SP 125?
The SP 160 is essentially a redesigned SP 125 with a larger engine. It has the same body panels, a V-shaped LED headlight, a slightly bigger tank shroud, a single-piece seat with a raised tail section, a single grab rail, a side-slung exhaust muffler with a chrome shield, and blacked-out internals as the R1.
Honda offers six color options for the new SP 160, including Matte Dark Blue Metallic and Pearl Spartan Red, Matte Axis Gray Metallic, Pearl Ignite Black, Matte Marvel Blue Metallic, and Pearl Deep Ground Gray.
Honda SP 160: A sportier Unicorn?
As expected, the Honda SP 160 is based on the Unicorn 160 and XBlade platforms. The SP 160 is powered by a 162.7cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 13.46 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 14.58 Nm of peak torque. The engine has been tweaked to produce 0.5 Nm more torque and horsepower than the Unicorn. A 5-speed gearbox transmits power to the rear wheel.
The diamond-type frame is supported by conventional telescopic forks up front and a mono-shock at the rear. A 276mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc provide braking power, together with a single-channel ABS. The base model has a rear 130mm drum brake. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with 80/100 front and 130/70 rear MRF Nylogrip tyres.
Honda SP 160: Features
The SP 160 comes standard with a completely digital LCD instrument console, an engine start/stop switch, and a hazard switch. A speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, and gear position indicator are located on the instrument panel.
