Two people were killed and 50 injured when 18 coaches of a train going for Mumbai derailed in Jharkhand on Tuesday.
The Howrah-CSMT Express (train number 128010) derailed between Rajkharsawan and Badabambo stations about 4 a.m., 80 kilometers from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand’s Chakradharpur railway division.
Railway teams were involved in rescue and relief efforts, and many injured passengers were taken to local hospitals.
Senior authorities from the Chakradharpur railway division, along with a relief train, have arrived at the accident site.
Aditya Kumar Choudhary, the Senior DCM (Divisional Commercial Manager) for Chakradharpur Division, confirmed the accident.
According to the Seraikela district government, two people died and the injured were sent to hospitals by buses.
Train operations on the Tatanagar-Chakradharpur line of the South Eastern Railway have been entirely halted as a result of the accident.
Several trains have been cancelled, while some are operating on alternate routes.
The task of clearing derailed carriages and rescuing trapped passengers is continue, with the assistance of cranes and other machinery.
The majority of the people were asleep at the time of the collision. Suddenly, a tremendous noise and jolts were felt as many coaches derailed one after the other. Panic broke out inside the train as individuals tried to save their lives. Many passengers resting in top berths fell, and luggage was dispersed everywhere.
