Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will launch a new certificate programme in fashion design. The new curriculum will be provided by the IGNOU School of Vocational Education and Training. According to an IGNOU statement, the program intends to prepare students for employment in the garment business.

Students who have completed Class 12 will be eligible to apply. The medium of instruction will be either English or Hindi. The certificate course might last anything from six months to two years.
The Indian government plans to attain $300 billion in textile exports by 2024-25 and create an additional 35 million jobs in the sector, according to the university, adding that the target cannot be met with the existing formal training system.
IGNOU emphasized that it is essential to use an exceptional pedagogical method, such as blended learning, to provide the programme in accordance with industry needs.
It will provide fundamental information and abilities in pattern making and sewing procedures. The program seeks to develop basic knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of fashion design, understanding of the fashion industry in India and around the world, impart fundamental knowledge of textiles, impart skills in digital technology in CAD, and develop knowledge and understanding of pattern making skills and sewing techniques; and develop entrepreneurship and communication skills.
