The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced its flagship MBA degree in Hindi and Odia. The effort unveiled on Monday represents another step forward in the execution of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. One of the NEP’s important strengths was its support for multilingual education and democratized learning.
According to the institution, the additional language options are intended to erase linguistic barriers in professional education, particularly for students from non-English-speaking backgrounds. By providing fundamental MBA study materials in Hindi and Odia, we hope to inspire students to engage with complex business topics in their own language, improving both accessibility and comprehension.
How will the course be structured?
This development is part of the E-Kumbh project, a national collaboration between IGNOU and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Through AICTE’s “Anuvadini” AI-powered translation tool, key academic resources have been translated to regional languages, supporting students in a more inclusive manner.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Abhay Jere, Vice Chairman of AICTE, highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in breaking educational barriers. He said tools like Anuvadini are helping make education “borderless” by enabling real-time, large-scale content localisation.
Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, highlighted the university’s mission of ensuring that no learner falls behind. She also reaffirmed plans to expand the MBA program to ten more Indian languages, broadening the scope of professional education in regional contexts.
