The Odisha chapter of the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) is pleased to announce the start of the IIA Leadership Conclave & Design Carnival 2023, a two-day spectacle with the subject “Samarth – Empowering Architecture.”
This distinguished event’s debut day featured an outstanding roster of speakers, dignitaries, technical workshops, panel discussions, competitions, cultural programs, and a spectacular musical night.
The event’s Chief Guest was Anu Garg, Development Commissioner and ACS. As the Guest of Honor, Ar. Villas Avachat, President of the IIA, added gravitas to the celebration.
Ar. Swopnadutta Mohanty, Chairman, IIA Odisha Chapter; Ar. Akshay Ku. Beuria, Secretary, IIA; Ar. Mousumi Nanda, Vice Chairman, IIA Odisha Chapter, and other leaders from the architectural and design community also attended the occasion.
Ar. Swopnadutta Mohanty, Chairperson, IIA Odisha Chapter, delivered the warm welcome address, setting the stage for a day filled with enriching experiences and discussions.
The first day featured two engaging technical sessions. The first inaugural session was led by the master architect, Ar. Sanjay Mohe, while the second technical session was helmed by the eminent architects, Ar. Murali Murugan. These sessions provided valuable insights into the future of architecture and design.
Moreover, a thought-provoking panel discussion added depth to the proceedings. The panel featured distinguished participants, including Add Er. JK Das, Managing Director of OBCC; Anil Dhir, Member of INTACH; Ramahari Jena, Senior Architect; LP Pattnaik, a renowned tour planner; Ar. Girdher Agarwal, an eminent Architect; Sujeet Bakul, Member of Bakul Foundation; Shiva Mohanty, Editor of New Indian Express; and Ar. Sangram Mohanty, Senior Architect.
Their discussions delved into various facets of architecture, urban planning, and sustainability.
The event also included thrilling architectural and cultural competitions among students, demonstrating the enormous potential and originality of the next generation of architects. The IIA Leadership Conclave & Design Carnival 2023 offers a unique platform. It brings together over 600 national delegates, along with representation from design schools across the state.
Additionally, there will be participation from over 200 enthusiastic architecture students. The event will feature plenary sessions, which will include engaging panel discussions with industry stakeholders. Moreover, there will be active involvement from our esteemed industry partners.

The topic, “Samarth – Empowering Architecture,” underscores the value of collective vision and steadfast commitment to create robust spaces that survive the test of time. This event not only provides critical skills and knowledge to IIA office bearers, but it also allows for active contact among national office bearers, council members, and representatives from various chapters, centers, and sub-centres.
