IIT JEE, UPSC, and GATE have all been named among the world’s most difficult exams. Erudera, an online education search platform, compiled the list. In the list, the IIT JEE exam is ranked first in India and second in the world. According to the platform, acceptance rates in IITs are around 1%, making it the world’s second most difficult exam.
“With increased competition, the exam’s difficulty is also increasing yearly. Over 1.2 million candidates appear every year, for around 11,000 seats in 23 different IITs,” the report stated. To prepare for this entrance exam, continuous efforts through two long years are needed on average. The exam has nearly 32,000 monthly internet searches.
Following the IIT JEE exam, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil service exams are ranked third, making them India’s second most difficult exam. The UPSC exam requires at least one year of preparation. According to the list, approximately 500,000 students take the preliminary exams for a total of less than 1,000 seats. The success rate ranges between 0.1 and 0.4 percent. If you pass the second stage, you will be invited to an interview with a panel that will evaluate your personality, awareness, and reasoning. UPSC conducts approximately 67,000 monthly searches.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), ranked eighth, is India’s third most difficult exam. The average time to prepare for the GATE exam is six months. According to the report, nearly 8 lakh to 1 million candidates apply for the exam, with an average of 16 to 18% passing.
China’s Gaokao exam, which lasts nine hours, is regarded as the most difficult in the world. Every year, nearly 12 million candidates take the exam. The Mensa exam from England is ranked fourth, followed by the GRE exam.
Other exams on the list include the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and the Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and the California bar exam.
The online platform has evaluated competitive exams from around the world based on the amount of time required to prepare for the entrance exam, the pass rate (in percentage)/score, and the number of candidates (yearly).
