The Durga Puja celebrations in Odisha are expected to be disrupted by rain, according to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar, which has forecast a new low pressure area over the central Bay of Bengal (BoB) between October 11 and October 17.
According to the IMD, a low pressure region is expected to emerge over the west-central Bay of Bengal by today. However, the good news is that the weather will grow less severe. However, the other low pressure area that is expected to emerge over the central BoB between October 11 and October 17 is likely to worsen into depression.
However, the weather authority underlined that the intensity and movement of the depression cannot be expected at this time. However, if the projected depression worsens into a deep depression, it might cause severe rainfall in Odisha and disrupt the Durga Puja celebrations, which are scheduled to last until October 13-14.
Meanwhile, the IMD predicts moderate to strong rain/thundershowers with lightning in various portions of the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar twin city area over the next two hours.
People are advised to monitor the weather conditions and move to a safe location to avoid lightning strikes.
