On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and lightning with rain in 15 districts of the state.
According to the weather service, many areas in south and western Odisha will likely experience gusty surface wind speeds of 40-50 kmph. Today, Kalbaisakhi is extremely likely to occur in one or two sites in Puri, Khurdha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
People have been encouraged to take the necessary steps to protect themselves from lightning and to seek shelter during rainstorms.
