IMD: The deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal is expected to grow into a cyclone on Friday (November 17), although it will have no direct impact on Odisha because it has begun to shift north northeastwards.
“The deep depression will further intensify into a cyclone by November 17. But, it has no direct impact on Odisha as it recurved from west-central Bay of Bengal to north-northeastwards,” Weather scientist Umashankar Dash of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar said at a press briefing.
There will be no big change in temperature in the next three-four days, he added.
The phenomenon will trigger light to moderate rain in coastal districts. Very heavy rain is likely to occur in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur. A yellow warning has been issued to these two districts, he added.
The sea conditions will be spectacular until November 18. Fishermen should avoid the deep sea during this time, according to Dash.
Thunderstorms are expected in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Thursday and Friday.
Some coastal areas got light to moderate downpours in the last 24 hours as a result of the depression. The maximum rainfall at Paradip was 6.9 mm. The port town also saw light rain in the morning on Thursday, according to a Met official.
