At the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, India showcased its key projects, notably the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Jal Jeevan Mission.
The Indian delegation to the meeting was led by Dammu Ravi, Secretary of Economic Relations (ER) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
“During the meeting, the G20 Ministerial Call to Action on Strengthening Drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Services was adopted. Secy (ER) highlighted India’s flagship schemes, such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Jal Jeevan Mission and AMRUT, and India’s development cooperation initiatives for the Global South,” the MEA said in a post on X.
The ministerial meeting focused on fundamental water and sanitation needs, with the goal of improving drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene services around the world.
The Secretary of Economic Relations also emphasized India’s development cooperation efforts in the Global South, as well as its support for developing, less developed, and underdeveloped countries.
Brazil, which took over the G20 presidency from India last year, has chosen the theme ‘Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet’.
The gathering focused on solving hunger, poverty, inequality, and climate change.
The event was co-chaired by Brazilian Foreign Affairs Minister Mauro Vieira, Minister of Planning Simone Tebet, Minister of Cities Jader Barbalho Filho, and Minister of Racial Equality Anielle Franco.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is set to attend the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty’s pre-launch on Wednesday, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to addressing global development concerns.
