For the first time since the cease-fire agreement, Indian and Pakistani military operations leaders spoke on a hotline about 5 p.m. on Monday to discuss how to restore quiet along the border, according to an official.
According to official sources, Pakistan has stated that it will not continue this combat and has expressed a willingness not to break the truce.
The negotiations between Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) focused on suspending military operations and shooting on the lines of agreement made after India’s anti-terror Operation Sindoor was suspended at Pakistan’s request on May 10.
The Indian Army confirmed the conversation between the two DGMOs. Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai of India and Major General Kashif Abdullah of Pakistan met at the military level to discuss the situation.
The DGMO hotline discussion also included tactics for exercising restraint and following the accord to halt firing and assess the current situation.
The DGMOs of India and Pakistan also inked a ceasefire agreement for 2021 to ensure peace and stability along the Line of Control.
During the day, there was suspicion about an alleged delay in the hotline discussion between the two DGMOs, as on May 10 — when the cease-fire agreement was reached — the tentative time for their talks was published as Monday noon.
On Monday, senior military officers delivered a detailed operational account of India’s formidable defense measures and offensive preparedness during and after Operation Sindoor.
At a high-level briefing, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), Air Marshal A.K. Bharti, and Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod, Director General of Naval Operations, described the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy’s multi-layered coordination, as well as a measured and impenetrable defense posture.
Lt Gen Ghai stated that India did not cross the Line of Control (LoC) or the International Border (IB) during its operations.
“All defensive measures were executed from within Indian territory,” he said, countering speculative reports of escalation.
