India rejected references to Jammu and Kashmir in a joint statement issued by China and Pakistan during Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Beijing on Thursday.
The references were “unwarranted,” according to External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, and India has consistently rejected such statements.
He stated that the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India.
Bagchi stated that India has consistently conveyed “protests and concerns” to China and Pakistan regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as it includes projects in India’s “sovereign territory.”
We categorically reject any attempt to use such projects to change the status quo in that area, said Bagchi.
Following talks between Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping, the joint statement was issued.
