Indian Ambassador to South Korea Gourangalal Das and Korea Aerospace Administration (KASA) Administrator Yoon Youngbin, met on Saturday to discuss space collaboration and methods to expand business-to-business (B2B) interactions in both nations.
The Indian envoy and KASA administrator met at the Indian Embassy in Seoul and discussed ways to strengthen India-South Korea space collaboration. According to the Embassy, the conversations were prompted by the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KASA and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
The two sides discussed specific areas of space cooperation as well as measures to strengthen business-to-business (B2B) exchanges between both countries’ developing commercial space sectors. The Ambassador also complimented KASA on a successful fourth NURI rocket launch.
KASA and ISRO signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together on space programs, research and technology infrastructure, and ground stations.
According to KASA, this agreement will deepen strategic collaborations, particularly in the Global South.
On November 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in South Africa, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the two nations’ strategic cooperation.
Both leaders last met in June of this year, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada.
Following their first meeting, Prime Minister Modi stated that India and South Korea want to collaborate in areas such as commerce, investment, technology, green hydrogen, space, shipbuilding, and more.
On June 18, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that PM Modi and President Lee “reaffirmed their commitment to deepening India-South Korea Special Strategic Partnership by exploring new avenues for cooperation through partnerships in areas of trade and economy, critical and emerging technologies,” including “culture and P2P (people-to-people contacts), among others”.
Noting that this year marks the tenth anniversary of the two nations’ unique strategic partnership, President Lee emphasized his desire to take bilateral relations to a new level “across the board”.
