Days after postponing the remaining matches of IPL 2021 session, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla on Saturday stated that the remaining matches of the T20 league will be played in UAE. “IPL has been moved to UAE for this season,” Rajeev Shukla quoted. Earlier, the Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held and emergency meet and unanimously determined to suspend the league indefinitely after several players had been tested positive for Covid-19.
According to reports, the matches are expected to be held within the months of September or October this year.
The decision was taken during the Special General Meeting of the BCCI. The meeting was held virtually and lasted for around 50 minutes. According to a senior state association member, members had been unanimous in their approval for holding matches in UAE.
“The SGM approved the decision to hold the remaining matches of IPL between September and October. The dates will be intimated later,” the official was quoted as saying,
IPL 2021 was suspended on May 4 after several coronavirus instances were reported throughout the bio-bubble.
Without mentioning the coronavirus situation, the official stated that it’s the time of retreating monsoon in India during the month of September and therefore it will be easier to conduct matches in UAE.
A discussion was also held on the conducting T20 World Cup in India within the last week of October. However, no decision was taken.
“The health condition in India doesn’t allow us to take any decision right now. The BCCI representatives will be seeking time till July 1 to take a final decision on this. A meeting will be held to decide whether or not to host World T20.”
