The IPL 2021 auction in Chennai noticed some fascinating bidding wars for players with a high base price. Regardless of a very subdued record in recent times, many teams with higher purses bid flamboyantly.
In terms of numbers, the IPL 2021 auction had some interesting aspects. There were 292 gamers up for auction. In keeping with the official statement by the IPL, 1114 players had registered with them for the 2021 auction. However, the final list noticed just 292 cricketers.
The highest reserve price in this auction was fastened at Rs 2 crore. Only two Indians – Kedar Jadhav and Harbhajan Singh – had been in that elite club at a base price of Rs 2 crore. Others in the list of expensive players were Liam Plunkett, Shakib Al Hasan, Mark Wood, Sam Billings, Moeen Ali, Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell.
If we break down the composition of the players when it comes to nationality, there were 125 foreign and 164 Indian cricketers up for grabs.

* Arjun Tendulkar bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 20 lakhs.
* Krishnappa Gowtham bought for Rs 9.25 crore by Chennai Super Kings.
* England pacer Tom Curran fetches successful bid of Rs 5.25 crore from Delhi Capitals.
* New Zealand medium pacer Kyle Jamieson goes to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 15 crore.
* Indian Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara bought by Chennai Super Kings for his base price of Rs 50 lakh.
* South African all-rounder Chris Morris became the most expensive buy in IPL auction history as Rajasthan Royals bid Rs 16.25 crore for him.
* Uncapped Australian pacer Riley Meredith bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 8 crore. His base price was Rs 40 lakh.
* Uncapped Tamil Nadu all-rounder Shahrukh Khan bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 5.25 crore.
* Indian pacer Umesh Yadav bought by Delhi Capitals at base value of Rs 1 crore.
* Australian pacer Jhye Richardson bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 14 crore.
* New Zealand pacer Adam Milne bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 3.20 crore.
* All-rounder Shivam Dube bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 4.40 crore.
* England all-rounder Moeen Ali bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 7 crore.
* Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 14.25 crore.
* Harbhajan Singh bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 2 crore.
* Kedar Jadhav bought by SunRisers Hyderabad for Rs 2 crore.
