Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, a young shooter from India, won the gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle men event at the ISSF World Cup Rifle and Pistol on Tuesday, bringing India’s medal tally to four.
In the final, the 19-year-old Indian defeated Maximilian Ulbrich 16-8. Miran Maricic of Croatia took bronze. Patil’s second gold medal of the competition, having won the mixed team gold on Monday.
Patil, who finished seventh in the qualification round with 629.3, won the ranking match with 262 thanks to some spectacular shooting to advance to the gold medal play-off against the German, who finished second with 260.6.
In the gold medal match-up, the Indian took an early lead with a fantastic 10.6 against Ulbrich’s thin 10. Both shooters competed closely until the scores were tied 7-7 after the seventh series. Later in the game, the Indian continued his clinical shooting and quickly raced to 16 points to take the top spot on the podium.
India currently leads the medal count with four medals, including three golds and one bronze.
Patil earned India’s second Olympic quota last year at the World Championships in Cairo, following Bhowneesh Mendiratta’s win in the shotgun event at the World Championships in Osijek, Croatia.
