Taking advantage of the Gandhi Jayanti national holiday on Monday, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan delivered another strong box office performance. The picture no longer has any records to break, but it performed roughly as well in its fourth weekend as many other films do in their first. Jawan earned Rs 6.8 crore on its fourth Monday (day 26 of release), bringing its total domestic earnings to Rs 611 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
This become the first Hindi film to cross the Rs 600 crore mark in the domestic market, surpassing Shah Rukh’s own Jawan to become India’s most successful Hindi film of all time. Jawan is presently the second-highest-grossing Hindi film in the world, with just under Rs 1100 crore to its name. The list is topped by Aamir Khan’s Dangal, which made most of its money in China.
Jawan grossed Rs 22 crore in its fourth weekend throughout India. On day 26, the action drama’s Hindi version had a nationwide occupancy of 34%, but the Tamil and Telugu versions had virtually halted distribution. In comparison, this week’s new films, Fukrey 3 and The Vaccine War, grossed Rs 54 crore and Rs 7 crore in four days, respectively.
Jawan set new marks for the biggest opening day, weekend, and week for a Hindi film. It was also the fastest Hindi film to reach the Rs 100 crore, Rs 200 crore, Rs 300 crore, Rs 400 crore, and Rs 500 crore milestones. The film also gained Shah Rukh the distinction of being the only Bollywood actor to deliver two Rs 1000 crore-plus grossers in a single year.
Pathaan and Jawan are significantly responsible for Bollywood cinema’s commercial resurgence this year, following several months of uncertainty. The love dramas Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, and Satyaprem Ki Katha, as well as the controversial film The Kerala Story, have also done well this year.
