Jawan, directed by Atlee and starring Shah Rukh Khan, is doing well at the box office both domestically and internationally. After a record-breaking week in theaters, Jawan’s nett box office in India stands at Rs 328 crore, with a worldwide gross total of more than Rs 600 crore. This is the highest first-week total ever for a Hindi film. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film grossed Rs 23 crore nett in India on Wednesday, its seventh day of release. According to Box Office Worldwide, Jawan will cross the Rs 700 crore global gross mark today, as it concludes its extended first week of distribution.
Jawan achieved the biggest-ever debut for a Hindi film last Thursday, on Janmashtami, earning Rs 75 crore nett in India. It reached its climax on day three, when it earned Rs 80 crore across India. Jawan also gained the distinction of grossing more over Rs 100 crore worldwide in its first three days of release. Even as the week began, collections were strong; Jawan earned Rs 32 crore in India on Monday and Rs 26 crore on Tuesday. The occupancy for the Hindi-language film was 23% on Wednesday, with night shows once again accounting for the highest profits. Mumbai and Delhi-NCR, the film’s two most profitable markets, had occupancy rates of 24% and 25%, respectively.
Jawan, which was intended to be Shah Rukh’s first pan-India release, was also dubbed in Tamil and Telugu. On day seven, Tamil-language occupancy was 15%, while Telugu-language occupancy was 23%. Jawan is directed by Atlee, best known for his work with Tamil superstar Vijay. It also stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in supporting roles.
Meanwhile, after grossing Rs 516 crore, the blockbuster film Gadar 2 appears to be slowing down at the box office. Gadar 2 is still approximately Rs 27 crore short of breaking Pathaan’s all-time record for the biggest Hindi-language hit in India. However, it appears like Jawan will not only surpass Gadar in the next days, but also Pathaan as well. Pathaan served as Shah Rukh’s grand return to form after a self-imposed five-year sabbatical following the back-to-back underperformance of several of his movies.
After a rough few years, films like Pathaan, Gadar 2, and Jawan have restored Bollywood to its pre-pandemic brilliance. Hits like Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Dream Girl 2, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, Satyaprem Ki Katha, and The Kerala Story also contributed. Shah Rukh will return later this year to complete his hat-trick with Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki.
