Jeep Meridian will be released in India on May 19. The three-row SUV has already been unveiled and will be available for purchase in the country later this week.
The company has already begun pre-bookings for the car for a nominal fee of $50,000. The vehicle can be reserved at any authorised Jeep dealership or online through the company’s official website. In addition, production of the model has already begun at the company’s Ranjangaon plant.
The Meridian will be based on the Jeep Compass platform, but will have several significant upgrades to accommodate the extra seats. The Meridian is 41mm wider and 48mm taller than the Compass in terms of dimensions. It also has a longer wheelbase than the Compass by 146 mm.
The Meridian has a completely new design and body panels that are inspired by the company’s Grand Cherokee SUV. The interior of the SUV will include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a 10.1-inch touchscreen system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless charging, powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree parking camera, and selectable drive modes will also be available. The vehicle will also have a powered tailgate.
The engine will be a 170hp, 350Nm, 2.0-litre four-cylinder Multijet turbo-diesel engine borrowed from the Jeep Compass. The transmission options will be a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic.
The Jeep Meridian is expected to fall in the price range between ₹25 lakh to ₹35 lakh (ex-showroom).
