Kavita Chawla, a homemaker from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, became the first ‘crorepati’ in Amitabh Bachchan’s quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 14’.
The 45-year-old discussed how she was able to complete her education despite her father’s inability to educate her after Class X. Only because her teacher intervened and reasoned with her father was she able to complete Class XII before marriage.
“I used to teach my son Vivek at home and have taught him from KG to Class VIII,” Chawla said of her preparation for the show. I used to prepare for the show alongside it because I had always wanted to go to ‘KBC’ since it first aired.
It took her 21 years and 10 months to get to the hot seat and realize her dream. In fact, her son would frequently prank her by pretending to be a call from the reality show’s producers.
When asked about meeting Amitabh Bachchan, Chawla stated: “It was strange. Sir had me spellbound. The most beautiful part of meeting him was our conversations, and the most glorious part was when he announced my name for the hotseat and I won Rs 1 crore.”
Chawla intends to put the money she has won to good use “in my son’s future because I want him to continue his education I want my son to learn and grow in order to make his country proud.” As for her, she said: “I want to travel across India and experience its beauty.”
