The sequence of specific puja rites performed ahead of the opening of the doors of the Kedarnath Dham in Uttarakhand began on Sunday, with the sacred temple scheduled to reopen for devotees on May 10.
The rite began on Sunday evening with the adoration of Lord Bhairavnath at the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath, the winter home of Panch Kedar — the collective term given to Kedarnath, Madhmaheshwar, Tungnath, Rudranath, and Kalpnath (five famed Shiva shrines). The worship of Lord Bhairavnath proceeded until late at night.
The ‘Panchmukhi Doli Yatra’, which carries Baba Kedarnath’s Panchmukhi Bhogmurti (five-faced idol), will depart from Ukhimath on Monday and arrive in the Kedarnath Dham on May 9 in the evening after passing through various stations.
The yatra will begin at the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath and end at the Vishwanath temple in Guptakashi. On May 7, the yatra will travel from Guptkashi for its second stop, Fata. It will leave Fata for Gaurikund, the third destination, on May 8. The Panchmukhi Doli Yatra from Gaurikund arrives in Kedarnath Dham in the dusk the following day.
Kedarnath Dham will open its doors to devotees at 7 a.m. on May 10.
