KGF: Chapter 2 by Prashanth Neel is breaking box office records. It first crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark internationally, then became the third-highest earner in the Hindi belt, and now the Hindi version is only the second to cross the Rs 400 crore mark, trailing only Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. The film directed by SS Rajamouli grossed Rs 511 crore.
Manobala Vijayabalan, a film trade analyst, tweeted, “#KGFChapter2 ZOOMS past “This is the first Sandalwood film to join the ELITE club.” He also revealed that the film earned Rs 1095.83 crore in the international market. He wrote, “#KGFChapter2 WW Box Office Inches CLOSER to ₹1100 cr milestone. Week 1 – 720.31 crore Week 2 – ₹ 223.51 cr Week 3 – ₹ 140.55 cr Day 1 of Week 4 – 11.46 cr 1095.83 cr total STRONG HOLD.”
After Dangal (Rs 2024 crore), Baahubali 2 (Rs 1810 crore), and RRR, KGF 2 is the fourth highest-grossing Indian film ever internationally (Rs 1127 crore). It is expected to soon surpass RRR’s global total.
On Friday, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh had listed all the benchmarks which have been achieved by KGF 2 until now. KGF 2, the sequel to KGF, follows the story of Yash’s Rocky, who rules the gold-mining empire at Kolar Gold Fields. Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon also play important roles in the film. Film critics have given it mixed reviews. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express gave the film a 1.5-star rating. “The trouble with films that are busy working on their look is that they forget about plotting,” she wrote in her review.
