The Kia EV6 is the Korean automaker’s first electric vehicle, having previously only offered SUVs and MPVs in the Indian market. Kia’s fleet will include Seltos, Sonets, Carnivals, and Carens. Kia India will bring the EV6 to the country via the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route. As of now, there are no plans to manufacture or assemble the EV6 in the United States. That is most likely one of the main reasons Kia has decided to limit the number of EV6s sold in the first phase. The EV6 will initially be available in only 100 units from the manufacturer.
“The Indian automotive industry is transforming, and Kia is at the forefront of this transformation,” said Tae-Jin Park, Managing Director and CEO of Kia India. We have repeatedly demonstrated this through our world-class products and services that address not only unmet but also unfelt Indian needs. The introduction of EV6 in the country confirms this.”
The Kia EV6, which is considered a technical cousin of Hyundai’s upcoming Ioniq 5 electric car, is built on the Hyundai Group’s dedicated EV platform known as the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). With a 77.4 kWh battery pack, the Kia EV6 claims to have a WLTP-certified range of 528 km on a single charge.
Kia will sell the EV6 in two trim levels: GT and GT-Line AWD. While the RWD version has a maximum output of 229 hp and 350 Nm of torque, the AWD version has a maximum output of 347 hp and a peak torque of 605 Nm. The EV6 can sprint from zero to 100 kmph in 3.5 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 192 kmph.
The Kia EV6 will be one of the first electric vehicles to hit the market this year. It is expected to compete with the upcoming Volvo XC40 Recharge and the Hyundai Ioniq 5, among others. The Kia EV6 is expected to cost more than 60 lakh rupees (ex-showroom).
