Arthritic patients may experience excruciating joint pain. Arthritis is a chronic disease that affects millions of people in India and is caused by inflammation, swelling, or stiffness in the joints.
Certain herbs can help with pain relief and disease management. Lovneet Batra, a nutritionist, posted on Instagram about herbs that can relieve joint pain. “Arthritis is a chronic disease that affects over 180 million Indians,” she wrote in the caption.
According to the nutritionist, osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are the two most common types of arthritis, both of which cause severe joint pain and a lower quality of life.
“Living with arthritis and bearing all the swelling and pain in the joints is not easy. The movement restriction and unbearable pain can make everyday tasks difficult for arthritis patients. Fortunately, dietary changes can significantly reduce the inflammation and help in managing the disease,” the expert shared, listing five herbs that could provide some comfort to an arthritis patient.
Aloe vera: It contains anti-inflammatory properties. The gel is packed with anthraquinones that help in relieving arthritis.
Turmeric (haldi): Its main ingredient, curcumin, has anti-inflammatory properties.
Thyme: It has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.
Ginger: Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties, including the ability to suppress inflammatory molecules called leukotrienes and to synthesize prostaglandins that cause pain and inflammation.
Garlic: Garlic contains diallyl disulphide, an anti-inflammatory compound that decreases the effects of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
