Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam will pay a state visit to India from September 9 to 16, the Ministry of External Affairs announced Friday.
This would be Prime Minister Ramgoolam’s first overseas bilateral visit to India during his current tenure.
Ramgoolam had previously visited India in May 2014, where he was the only non-SAARC leader invited to attend the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers’ swearing-in ceremonies.
During his visit to India, Prime Minister Ramgoolam will meet with President Draupadi Murmu and have discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership’. He will also travel to Mumbai, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Tirupati. He was scheduled to attend a business function in Mumbai.
The ministry stated that India and Mauritius have a close and special connection based on common historical, cultural, and people-to-people links. Mauritius, being India’s significant maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean Region, plays an important role in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Region) and the ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’, as well as a key partner in the Global South.
