Threads, Meta’s Twitter rival, has surpassed 90 million user sign-ups just a few days after its inception.
Threads, which was released on Wednesday for iOS and Android users in 100 countries, is presently the top free app on the App Store.
According to Search Engine Journal, there are presently roughly 90 million accounts on the Threads app, based on the number badges that appear on Instagram profiles and signal when someone joined the new app.
Threads would quickly approach 100 million users with the present rate of user adoption.
The new app received 2 million sign-ups in the first two hours, 10 million in seven hours, 30 million in 12 hours, and 70 million by Friday.
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri recently clarified that Meta is not intended to replace Twitter, but rather to create a public square for Instagram communities that have never fully embraced Twitter, as well as communities on Elon Musk’s platform “that are interested in a less angry place for conversations, but not all of Twitter.”
Meanwhile, Threads has created an Android beta program to provide consumers with early access to new features and issue fixes.
Direct messaging, a “Following” feed, a full web version, a chronological feed, and other features are now lacking from the new app.
