According to the local military, at least 11 people were killed in missile attacks overnight in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, not far from the Russia-occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant.
“On a tragic night in the Nikopol area, the Russian army killed 11 people and injured 13,” said Valentyn Reznichenko, head of the Dnipropetrovsk military administration, in a Telegram post.
According to the dpa news agency, both of the affected areas are on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River from the Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant, which has been shelled several times in recent days.
According to Reznichenko, the small town of Marhanets was the hardest hit, with 20 multi-story buildings damaged, including two schools, a dormitory, and a cultural center.
According to him, ten people were killed in the town and 11 others were injured, seven of whom were seriously.
Another woman was killed in her home in another village near Nikopol as a result of the attack, and a couple was injured.
The two villages are located on the Dnipro River’s north bank, near the Kakhovka reservoir.
The nuclear plant that has caught fire on the southern side is less than 20 kilometers away, causing international safety concerns.
Both Ukraine and Russia claim responsibility for the attacks.
