On Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) declared that the southwest monsoon has advanced further throughout parts of Odisha, with sporadic rainfall recorded in various districts and warnings of hot, humid conditions and thunderstorms over the next days.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar’s midday bulletin, the monsoon’s northern limit has now reached Bhawanipatna and Puri in Odisha, indicating significant advance into the interior and coastal districts.
Light to moderate rainfall was reported in isolated areas throughout 12 districts, including Khurda, Balasore, Sambalpur, and Rayagada.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for the next three days, alerting the public to probable thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds (30-40 km/h) in several districts, including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Khurda.
Hot and humid conditions are predicted to persist in districts including Cuttack, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Jagatsinghpur. Heatwave conditions are expected in isolated areas of Balasore, Puri, and Bhadrak between June 5 and 7.
