Narendra Modi will swear-in as the Prime Minister for the third time on June 9 (Sunday), senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi said on Friday.
Speaking to alliance partners during the NDA parliamentary meeting in the former Parliament building, Joshi announced that the oath-taking ceremony would happen on Sunday at 6 p.m. The purpose of the gathering was to choose Narendra Modi to lead the NDA.
Senior coalition figures, including chief ministers, were present at the meeting in addition to the NDA MPs. BJP president JP Nadda made a resolution endorsing Narendra Modi’s leadership, and allies and MPs were expected to approve it.
Senior members of the alliance, such as N Chandrababu Naidu of the TDP, Nitish Kumar of JD(U), and Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena, will meet with President Droupadi Murmu after Narendra Modi is chosen as the party’s leader by NDA MPs. The purpose of this meeting is to present the President with the list of MPs who support the NDA.
Alongside prominent BJP officials, NDA leaders Pawan Kalyan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Anupriya Patel, Kumar, and Shinde were also present on the major dais.
With 293 seats, the NDA exceeded the 272 majority needed to form the 543-member Lok Sabha. Contrary to exit poll expectations, the Opposition INDIA alliance won 234 seats.
After securing 282 and 303 seats in 2014 and 2019, respectively, the BJP only managed 240 seats, marking the first time in a decade that the party failed to secure a majority.
In order to allay any concern, the BJP leadership moved quickly to establish a government after the results were announced on June 4-5.
Senior BJP figures, such as Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and Nadda, have also been negotiating with partners to figure out a cooperative arrangement for their representational portion in the incoming administration, which will be heavily dependent on them to survive.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, President Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ of Nepal, and King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan are among the foreign dignitaries scheduled to attend Narendra Modi’s inauguration. Pravind Jugnauth, the prime minister of Mauritius, is probably going to be invited also.
In addition, laborers engaged in the Central Vista project, employees of Railways producing the Vande Bharat trains and Vande Metro, transgender individuals, sanitation personnel, ambassadors for Viksit Bharat, and recipients of central government welfare programs are anticipated to attend the swearing-in ceremony, according to sources.
