On the 4th Sunday of July, National Parents’ Day honors all parents. No matter where our parents are, this day commemorates their vital role in our lives.
In May, we honored mothers, and in June, we honored fathers. As a result, we can gather all of our parents in July and show them how much we appreciate them all at once.
Parents play an important role in their children’s lives. Parents protect, teach, provide, and serve as role models for us from the moment we are born. We look to them for guidance as members of a family. We mimic their actions and learn to be integral members of our communities.
Our parents have always encouraged us to be self-sufficient thinkers. As many of us are aware, those efforts can be difficult. The world is changing at the same rate that people are growing. Sleepless nights and worry can seem interminable at times. On this special Sunday, we honor all parents who go above and beyond to raise and protect their children.
NATIONAL PARENTS’ DAY HISTORY
President Bill Clinton established National Parents’ Day in 1994 when he signed Congressional Resolution (36 U.S.C. § 135) into law. The resolution recognized the “…uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in the rearing of children.” Republican Senator Trent Lott introduced the bill.
