Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha and the leader of the BJD, will campaign for the party’s Brajarajnagar Bypoll candidate Alka Mohanty.
Patnaik is one of the BJD’s 40 star campaigners for the byelection, according to a list released by the party today.
Other BJD leaders who have featured in the list are Pranab Prakash Das, Debi Prasad Mishra, Prasanna Acharya, Niranjan Pujari, Pratap Jena, Arun Kumar Sahoo, Pramila Mallik, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Sanjay Kumar Das Burma, Samir Ranjan Das, Naba Kishore Das, Susant Singh, Tukuni Sahu, Chandra Sarathi Behera, Dibya Shankar Mishra, Puspendra Singh Deo, Subash Singh, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, Snehangini Chhuria, Sasmit Patra, Sujit Kumar, Muzibulla Khan, Rohit Pujari, Priti Ranjan Ghadei, Debesh Acharya, Rajendra Dholakia, Rita Sahu, Prasanta Behera, Nalinkanta Pradhan, Saroj Meher, Bikram Panda, Latika Pradhan, Pradeep Kumar Disari, Kishore Chandra Nayak, Akash Das Nayak, Yogesh Singh, Arindam Roy, Soubhagya Nayak and Baikuntha Nayak.
Notably, the bypoll was called after Brajrajnagar MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty died of cardiac arrest on December 30, 2021.
Alka Mohanty of the BJD, former Brajrajnagar MLA Radharani Panda of the BJP, and Kishore Chandra Patel of the Congress have all filed nominations for the bypoll.
The State Election Commission has announced that the byelection will be held on May 31 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The voting will take place on June 3rd.
