Naveen Patnaik, the former Odisha Chief Minister and BJD president, was chosen chairperson of the BJD parliamentary party on Friday.
Patnaik was unanimously elected by the party’s nine Rajya Sabha MPs in a meeting at his apartment, according to MP Sasmit Patra.
As there are no party MPs in the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha members will address Odisha issues in Parliament. Strategies were reviewed for the upcoming budget session, which begins on July 22.
BJD President Patnaik ordered MPs to act as a strong opposition to the BJP-led Centre on Odisha-related issues. He also encouraged them to seek special category status for the state.
Sulata Deo, MP (Rajya Sabha) of Biju Janata Dal (BJD), announced that the party will forcefully address various vital concerns in Parliament, including delayed progress of national highway and railway projects, inadequate bank branches, delay in coal royalty revisions, and more. Furthermore, the BJD would strive for the quick introduction of women’s reservations in Parliament and legislatures.
