The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with visual communication platform Canva to launch three self-paced digital training and certification programs for teachers in India. These free courses will help school teachers develop digital, creative, and collaborative teaching skills.
The Canva teacher training program will be offered through DIKSHA, the Ministry of Education’s digital portal for school education. It will also be shown on PM eVidya’s DTH TV channels, making it more accessible to educators in all regions, including those without internet access. The courses would be available in different Indian languages to ensure widespread participation.
Throughout the training, educators will learn how to use Canva Education to create interactive lesson plans, presentations, infographics, and other teaching resources. They will also be exposed to collaborative teaching strategies and the usage of artificial intelligence tools in the classroom. After completion, teachers will earn joint certification from NCERT and Canva.
Under the terms of the MoU, Canva will provide free access to its educational platform and tools, as well as assistance in the development of teaching materials. NCERT will be in charge of matching the content with India’s national curriculum and adapting it for regional use.
The training programme is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and aims to improve visual learning, critical thinking, and design-based pedagogy. Educators will also be trained to use AI features to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
This effort will provide Indian teachers with access to Canva Education’s large library, which includes over 500 apps and tools with features such as games, translation support, worksheets, and infographics across subjects and grade levels. The platform’s AI-powered tools will help teachers ease content development while also enabling time-efficient planning and delivery.
According to Canva, its education project will add over 25 million students and teachers in 2024 alone, bringing its worldwide learning community to more than 100 million users. Over the last year, the platform has had a 50% increase in instructor usage and a 107% increase in student involvement. Canva’s AI tools such as Dream Lab are now widely used by educators to create customised visuals, further supporting digital learning environments globally.
