The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) will hold the National Eligibility and Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 on June 15. The exam will take place in two shifts, like it did last year. However, the official information bulletin outlining eligibility criteria, exam pattern, and NEET PG marking scheme has yet to be released. Candidates can access the bulletin once it is accessible on the official website, natboard.edu.in.
The NBEMS had already established the internship completion date in December of last year in order to be eligible to take the NEET PG exam. The internship must be completed by July 31, 2025, in order to be eligible for the NEET PG 2025 exam.
Around two lakh MBBS graduates take NEET PG every year for around 52,000 postgraduation seats across the country.
Last year, for the first time ever, NEET PG was held in two shifts, instead of the usual one single-shift format. The exam was conducted on August 11 in two shifts — first from 9 am to 12:30 pm and the next from 3:30 pm to 7 pm.
The board stated that examinees were given different shifts at random to ensure that each group was about similar in size. The random distribution served to avoid any potential bias in the allocation of applicants. Furthermore, considering the huge number of examinees distributed around the country, the board stated that the possibility of prejudice was low.
With the new system in place, the Board had to begin the process of normalization.
Last year’s NEET PG results for each shift were prepared using raw scores and percentages.
Percentiles up to seven decimal places for the overall score were calculated. The mechanism used to break ties (similar percentiles) will be age-based, with the candidate who is older being rated higher.
Furthermore, the percentile scores for the total marks for all shifts were combined and organized to provide an overall Merit List / Ranking. The overall NEET PG merit or ranking was calculated using the raw score’s percentile.
