Ather Energy has unveiled a fully new product line based on the company’s 450 platform. The new 450S and 450X will be loaded with innovative safety and performance innovations, including India’s first DeepView Display, which will debut in the new 450S.
The 450S has a 2.9 kWh battery, an IDC range of 115km, an 0-40 acceleration time of 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 90kmph. The car features a DeepView Display, updated switchgear, FallSafe, an Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), and coasting regen, which increases range by up to 7%. Users can charge the 450S at up to 1.5km/h using Ather Grid fast chargers.
All of these improvements have been carried over to the existing model, the 450X, which now has the option of choosing between 115 km and 145 km range variations. Users of the 450S and 450X can opt for the Pro pack over the standard configuration, which enables Ride Assist, Ather battery protect, AtherStack updates, and Ather Connect.
The New Ather 450 range
The 7-inch DeepView Display has a 1000:1 contrast ratio, auto-brightness, and 18-segment characters for improved readability at any time of day. The DeepView Display’s on-board navigation has 18+ directional options, allowing users to effortlessly navigate even in a convoluted 8-way roundabout.
The DeepView Display, in conjunction with newly developed switchgear, delivers a unique interactive experience not seen in contemporary digital displays.
Both the 450S and 450X include updated switchgear with increased tactile feel, as well as two new switch additions, one-click reverse and a joystick. The joystick enables a variety of interactions on the 450S and also better in-ride interactivity on the 450X, and one-click reverse provides a hassle-free reverse experience.
When the rider is going to fall over, the new FallSafe feature, which is now available in all models, can detect changes in the scooter’s speed, orientation, and acceleration. This feature turns off the motor (to prevent any additional movement, such as sliding) and activates flashing indicator lights to alert anyone nearby to come to the rider’s aid.
Furthermore, Ather introduces the new ‘Emergency Stop Signal,’ a European requirement, to the Indian market for the first time. This feature aims to prevent accidents/collisions in panic-braking situations. When an Ather user panic brakes at more than 50km/h, brake lights blink to provide riders behind with a visual cue/warning, allowing them more time to respond.
Furthermore, the 450S has a coasting regen feature that slows the vehicle down while at a steady coast (no acceleration or manual braking) and recycles the energy back into the battery to extend battery range. Ather has dynamically integrated this function, guaranteeing that regen is lower at lower speeds, allowing people to easily nibble through traffic, and higher at higher speeds to ensure lower brake usage and improved efficiency.
The new inbox-to-scooter tool, a first in the industry, brings destination addresses from other apps (such as WhatsApp/Telegram/Instagram DM, etc.) directly to the Ather dashboard. Users must have the Ather app loaded to use this feature, and the location provided must be a Google Maps link alone.
The revised trip planner will enable riders to select their favorite Ather Grid chargers and build the trip around them, in addition to offering the best route suggestions and a map of Ather Grid chargers.
Furthermore, in some geographies, trip planners can now assist with trip planning and recommend optimal Ather Grid chargers for interstate trips. Ather has over 1400 public chargers located throughout the country, including on state and national highways.
Ather has also improved the design of the rear mud flap to reduce splatter on the pillion when riding on dusty or muddy roads. It also provides additional mud protection for the rear monoshock and brake callipers.
