Niladri Bije is the event commemorating Lord Jagannath’s return from the Raths to the main temple at Goti Pahandi with his siblings. Niladri bije appears to be the most exciting and final rite of the Jagannath Rath Yatra. Goti Pahandi is the Divine Triad’s journey from the chariots to Ratna Singhasana. This sacred rite will take place on July 1, 2023.
On Asadha Trayodashi, Niladri Bije is celebrated. The last day of Ratha Yatra is Niladri Bije. Deities return to the bejeweled throne or Ratna Bedi on this day. Lord Jagannath offers Rasgulla to Goddess Mahalaxmi in order for her to enter the temple.
Lord Jagannath is not allowed to enter into the Temple
This is quite interesting since it represents the continuation of the battle between Lord Jagannath and Goddess Mahalakshmi. Lord Balabhadra and Subhadra return to the temple after their holiday, but Goddess Mahalakshmi forbids Lord Jagannath from entering. A quarrel breaks out between Lord Jagannath and Mahalakshmi in front of the temple. She was upset with him since he didn’t bring her with him on his annual visit to his aunt’s house. When the Goddess came to meet him, he had also closed the door.
Lord Jagannath pleases Goddess Mahalakshmi
Despite numerous petitions, Lord Jagannath was not permitted to visit the Jagannath mandir premises. After presenting Rasgulla, an Odia dessert consisting of curd cheese, to Goddess Laxmi. She relaxed and accepted his apologies.
After a lengthy discussion, Mahalakshmi ultimately relents and unlocks the temple entrance, allowing Lord Jagannath to enter. After that, Jagannath is made to sit by Lakshmi and a reunion rite is performed before Lord Jagannath ascends the Ratna Singhasana and re-joins his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra.
The massive vehicle festival of the Gods, Jagannath Rath Yatra, comes to a close here. This is a big event for the entire state, and it is attended by a large number of tourists, both foreigners and Indians. Puri witnessed a large number of worshippers during the rath yatra flocking in large numbers amid a divine fervour to seek the blessings of the Lords.
